New Delhi, 5 October 2026: India and Switzerland announced five cooperation instruments after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss President Guy Parmelin held bilateral talks during Parmelin’s state visit. This updates the earlier report that talks were underway; no separate duplicate story has been created.

The official outcomes list includes:

  • Migration and Mobility Partnership: cooperation on lawful mobility and action against irregular migration, exploitation and trafficking. It provides for multiple-entry visas valid for up to five years, with stays of up to six months per visit, and renewable one-year student permits.
  • Young Professionals Scheme: temporary professional exchanges for 300 people annually from each country, with scope to increase the number to 500.
  • Transport and infrastructure: collaboration covering electric vehicles, ropeways, circular economy, tunnels and other transport technologies and mobility systems.
  • Scientific research: a Letter of Intent between India’s Department of Science and Technology and the Swiss National Science Foundation to support exploratory collaboration and future joint research.
  • Innovation and entrepreneurship: an implementation arrangement with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences for the AIT India programme for early-stage startups.

The two sides also announced the inaugural Indo-Swiss Research Flagship event with India’s Ministry of Science and Technology. Parmelin’s visit continues through 7 October and marks the first anniversary of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement entering into force.
