October 25 brings two significant, documentable anniversaries in this edition. No exact-date anniversary directly tied to the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu or Kerala could be verified to the required standard, so no local claim has been invented.
1951 — Independent India’s first general election began
Polling in independent India’s first general election began on 25 October 1951. Conducted in stages because of the country’s size, transport and seasonal conditions, the election continued until 21 February 1952. Both the Election Commission of India’s election atlas and the Lok Sabha’s official record give the same date range.

1971 — UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758
At its 1976th plenary meeting on 25 October 1971, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758 (XXVI) by 76 votes to 35, with 17 abstentions and three members not voting. The decision recognized representatives of the People’s Republic of China as China’s representatives at the United Nations, replacing the then representatives of the Republic of China. The U.S. State Department’s historical record says the Secretary-General notified relevant UN agencies on 26 October 1971; the adoption date and notification date are therefore kept distinct here.
