Tamil Nadu extends interstate transport ban on rough stone and aggregates by three months
Extension takes effect on 27 October 2026; the existing exemptions for Puducherry and Karaikal remain.
Tamil Nadu has extended its temporary restriction on transporting rough stone and construction aggregates to other states for a further three months, effective 27 October 2026.
Times of India and Deccan Chronicle both cite an order from the state’s Directorate of Geology and Mining. The previous three-month restriction, imposed on 27 July 2026, was due to expire on 26 October.
Transport to Puducherry and Karaikal remains exempt. The measure concerns interstate movement of the specified materials; it is not a general ban on their use within Tamil Nadu.
The state has cited maintaining construction-material supplies within Tamil Nadu, protecting the environment and curbing illegal mining and transport among the objectives. District collectors and superintendents of police in border districts have been instructed to strengthen monitoring and enforcement.
- Effective date: 27 October 2026.
- Extension: three additional months.
- Exemptions: Puducherry and Karaikal.
