India’s National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has capped trade margins on 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer medicines at 30%. The notification was issued on October 17, and revised maximum retail prices take effect on November 9, 2026.

How the price will be calculated

The maximum 30% trade margin will be added to the price charged to the distributor or stockist, followed by applicable GST. Medicines already sold at a lower maximum retail price cannot be increased to the new ceiling.

  • Manufacturers must submit revised price lists to the NPPA within seven days.
  • They have been directed to maintain uninterrupted production and supply.
  • Any amount found to have been overcharged may have to be repaid with interest.

Based on the NPPA’s analysis, maximum retail prices of the covered medicines may fall by about 20% to 70%, with estimated annual savings of about ₹2,500 crore. These are estimates; the final reduction will vary by medicine.
